Green Parikud is a community-driven environmental initiative founded by Mr. Himanshu Nayak on 3rd July 2015 to create greenery across Parikud — a beautiful island surrounded by the Bay of Bengal and Chilika Lake in Puri district, Odisha.
What started with a small group of youth from his village Gomundia quickly spread to neighboring villages as people planted trees on vacant lands. Inspired by the overwhelming response, Mr. Nayak formally named the movement “Green Parikud”, aiming to cover all 96 villages of the region.
On his son’s 1st birthday in Sept 2016, instead of hosting a party, Mr. Nayak distributed 2,000 mango and lemon saplings — a gesture widely appreciated for its environmental impact.
Over the years, the movement has organized awareness programs in schools and colleges involving forest officials, government reps, SHG women, and youth. It expanded to Puri, Bhubaneswar, and neighboring states. Green Marathons in 2016 and 2017 further raised consciousness.
In 2018, Mr. Nayak received the Dronacharya Award. During his tenure in Raipur, he founded Climate Change Solution, connecting professionals to champion environmental causes.
So far, over 70,000 trees, 110,000 palm trees, and 100,000 neem seeds have been planted across Odisha and Chhattisgarh — completely self-funded without NGO or government support.
Inspired by the climate crisis, Mr. Nayak authored “Climate Change Solution”, listing 365 actionable steps to fight climate change and a roadmap to achieve Net Zero India by 2050.
Through the NetZero Planet Foundation, the goal is to plant 1 crore trees by 2030, empowering individuals, businesses, and governments to contribute to India’s Net Zero target — 20 years ahead of schedule.
