NATIVE AFFORESTATION & RESTORATION

Tree Plantation

Planting Is the Beginning. Survival Is the Responsibility.

Trees are among our most valuable natural assets. They store carbon as they grow, provide shade, support biodiversity, protect soil, contribute to water cycles and help create healthier and more liveable communities.

At NetZero Planet Foundation, we believe tree plantation should never be reduced to a one day event, a photograph or simply the number of saplings planted. Our focus is on creating protected, well planned and responsibly maintained green spaces where trees have the opportunity to establish, survive and grow.

Don’t Just Plant Trees. Help Them Become Trees.

Our Plantation Approach

Our current plantation programmes primarily focus on area based Miyawaki and dense native plantation models, wherever ecologically and locally appropriate.

Instead of scattered roadside plantation requiring individual tree guards, we prefer suitable plantation sites where the entire plantation area can be protected, maintained and monitored as one green ecosystem.

Our approach follows:

ASSESS β†’ PLAN β†’ PROTECT β†’ PLANT β†’ MAINTAIN β†’ MONITOR β†’ GROW

Before plantation, we consider factors such as site suitability, local ecology, soil conditions, water availability, existing vegetation, native species, land availability, permissions, protection requirements and long term maintenance.

The objective is not simply to plant more trees. It is to help create protected, diverse and resilient green spaces.

Miyawaki & Dense Native Plantation

Where site conditions are suitable, NetZero Planet Foundation promotes the Miyawaki method and other appropriate dense native plantation approaches.

Our plantations seek to use a diverse mix of native and locally suitable species, selected according to the ecological conditions of the site.

Dense plantation can help transform suitable available land into developing green spaces while creating opportunities for biodiversity, shade, soil protection and improved local microclimate.

However, no plantation method is appropriate for every location. Site selection and plantation design should always respond to local ecological conditions. This is consistent with the Foundation's principle that plantation methods should be selected according to the site and project objective.

Protecting the Entire Plantation Area

For large scale plantation, protecting thousands of individual saplings through separate tree guards can be difficult to manage effectively.

Our preferred model is therefore collective protection of the entire plantation area.

Cement Pillars + Fencing Wire / Fencing Net + Controlled Access

This helps protect the plantation from grazing, avoidable human disturbance and physical damage, while making maintenance, monitoring and management of large plantation sites more practical.

The exact fencing and protection system is determined according to site conditions, plantation size, local risks and project requirements.

Native Trees First

Where ecologically appropriate, we prioritise native and locally suitable tree species.

Species selection is site specific and considers factors such as soil, rainfall, water availability, local climate, available space, ecological suitability and biodiversity value.

Our philosophy is simple:

Right Tree β†’ Right Place β†’ Right Method β†’ Right Protection β†’ Long Term Care

Long Term Care

Plantation day is Day One, not the completion of the project.

Depending on the site and project design, post plantation care may include:

Watering β€’ Mulching β€’ Weeding β€’ Protection β€’ Mortality Replacement, where appropriate β€’ Seasonal Maintenance β€’ Periodic Monitoring

Our real measure of plantation success should therefore move beyond:

β€œHow many trees did we plant?”

to:

β€œHow many trees are establishing, surviving and growing?”

Long term maintenance and periodic monitoring are central to the Foundation's plantation philosophy.

Our Three Year Care Approach

Where feasible and included within the project design, we seek to support plantation sites through a structured three year maintenance and monitoring approach.

Year 1 β€” Establish:

Plantation establishment, watering, weeding, protection and mortality replacement where appropriate.

Year 2 β€” Strengthen:

Continued maintenance, growth monitoring, protection and corrective interventions where required.

Year 3 β€” Sustain:

Continued monitoring, necessary maintenance and assessment of plantation establishment and survival.

The actual maintenance schedule depends on species, location, rainfall, local conditions and individual project requirements.

Measure & Report

We believe responsible plantation requires transparency beyond plantation day.

Where project design and resources permit, our plantation projects progressively document:

Plantation Location β€’ Plantation Date β€’ Area Covered β€’ Number of Trees Planted β€’ Species β€’ Photographs β€’ Geo tagged Evidence β€’ Maintenance Activities β€’ Monitoring Visits β€’ Trees Recorded as Surviving β€’ Survival Assessment

Where a survival assessment has not yet been conducted, we believe it is more responsible to report β€œSurvival Assessment Pending” rather than publish an assumed survival rate.

TRANSPARENCY + PROTECTION + MAINTENANCE + MEASUREMENT

From Plantation to Ecological Restoration

Our long term vision extends beyond planting saplings.

Where appropriate, we want plantation projects to develop into functioning green spaces connecting:

Trees + Soil + Water + Biodiversity + Community

The objective is not simply to put saplings into the ground. It is to help create living green ecosystems.

Plantation will also be undertaken responsibly. Natural grasslands, wetlands, coastal ecosystems and other habitats have their own ecological importance, and plantation should not replace valuable natural ecosystems.
PHILOSOPHY

Plant & Protect

Through Climate Conscious Bharat, we want tree plantation to become more than an environmental activity. We want it to encourage a culture of responsibility towards nature.

Our Plant & Protect philosophy encourages people and institutions not simply to participate in plantation, but to recognise the importance of protection, care and long term survival.

β€œI will not only plant trees. I will protect and care for the trees I help plant.”

This can become part of the wider Climate Pledge journey.

GIFTING NATURE

Gift Trees

Give a Gift That Grows

Celebrate a birthday, anniversary, festival, achievement or special occasion by supporting tree plantation and care in honour of someone you care about.

Gift Trees transforms the idea of gifting into an opportunity to support nature and contribute towards a greener future.

Celebrate β†’ Gift Trees β†’ Support Nature β†’ Create a Living Legacy
STEWARDSHIP

Adopt Trees

Support Their Journey Beyond Plantation

Through Adopt Trees, individuals, families, institutions and organisations can support the protection, maintenance and monitoring of trees within eligible Foundation plantation projects.

Tree adoption represents support for the care and growth of the plantation and does not imply ownership of the tree or land.

Planting Is the Beginning. Caring Makes the Difference.

[ADOPT TREES]

The Foundation's wider tree sponsorship model is designed around transparency regarding what contributions support, project location, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and reporting.

CORPORATE COLLABORATION

CSR Tree Plantation Partnerships

We invite corporates and CSR partners to collaborate with us in developing protected, measurable and responsibly maintained plantation projects.

Potential programmes may include:

Miyawaki Forests
Dense Native Plantations
Climate Resilient School Campuses
Institutional Green Spaces
Community Green Spaces
Native Biodiversity Restoration
District Greening Programmes
Employee Plant & Protect Initiatives

Our approach seeks to move CSR plantation beyond:

β€œHow many trees were funded?”

towards:

β€œWhere were they planted, how were they protected and maintained, and what happened after plantation?”

Depending on the project scope, CSR reporting may include site information, plantation plans, species details, implementation photographs, geo tagged evidence, maintenance updates, monitoring and survival assessments, and periodic impact reports.

Tree Plantation & Climate Action

Trees contribute to climate action by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing carbon as they grow. However, plantation should not be presented as an instant cancellation of an individual's or organisation's Carbon Footprint.

Carbon storage depends on factors including species, age, growth, climate, soil, survival, management and time.

Our broader climate action approach is therefore:

MEASURE→AVOID→REDUCE→RESTORE→ACT RESPONSIBLY

Tree plantation is an important part of a much larger journey involving Carbon Footprint awareness, behavioural change, resource efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, biodiversity protection and nature based action.

Plant Today. Protect for Tomorrow.

Planting thousands or millions of saplings can create numbers.

Helping them survive can create ecosystems.

Our mission is therefore not simply to increase the number of trees planted. It is to help create healthier, greener and more resilient landscapes through appropriate plantation, area based protection, long term care, monitoring and community participation.
